Talk about one cute kitty; the British Shorthair is absolutely adorable. So much so, that it is one of the most popular cat breeds today. The British Shorthair, often called the smiley cat, has even been used for some movies, such as Pet Cemetery, and the popular characters, Cheasar Cat, and Puss n’ Boots.

The British Shorthair is the oldest known British cats. They are the number one purebred cat in the U.K., but are fairly rare in the United States. These cats are often described as regal. Their looks are unique, with chubby cheeks and round faces that make you just want to squeeze them.

The British Shorthair has a massive head and a very strong body. These cats can weigh anywhere from twelve to eighteen pounds. They are very healthy and live to be fourteen to twenty years of age. The British Shorthair has a thick, plush coat, but requires minimal grooming; once a week being sufficient. They come in a wide variety of colors, with as many as thirty different colors to choose from.

The British Shorthair has a wonderful disposition and personality. They are very sweet, loving, and calm-natured. These self-composed cats are ideal for children and families. If you’re looking for a cat that is pretty quiet and loves to snuggle with you this is a great pick.
