The Nebelung is a newer breed, developed by crossing a Russian Blue male with a female carrying the longhaired gene, meant to resemble a longhaired Russian Blue. This beautiful rare breed can be hard to find.
Nebelungs have a long, slender, graceful body, long legs and tail, large, pointed ears, and oval green or yellow-green eyes. They have a long, silky blue coat with silver tips, which has a shimmering look to it . Although the coat is double-layered, it does not tend to mat, so moderate grooming of two brushings per week is all that’s required to keep them looking good. They are a generally healthy cat, and should live long lives with good care.
These are gentle, good-natured, affectionate cats. They exhibit a combination of a quieter personality plus an intelligent, lively streak, often retrieving objects or even opening doors. They are fastidious about their cleanliness, and the hygiene of their food and water dishes, and their litter-box. They are very loyal and loving with their family members, but tend to be shy of strangers and small children. Nebelungs do best in a senior’s home, or with families with older children and without rowdy dogs, although they can do well with another quiet-natured cat. These cats do best indoors and make for very good lap cats in the right kind of home.
